PC-Blank Screen/Black Screen on Start Up Fix

PROBLEM: You turn on your PC and all the lights light up and the fan sounds like its running but there's a problem, the screen is black. What I call the blank screen problem.

One problem I had in the past was the Blank Screen problem. I call it that at least, and the problem symptoms reek havoc during the start up process, when the PC's lights flash on and off and all of the hardware is being checked by the BIOS and configuration hardware.

I tried looking up solutions in a book and tried a lot of different things. But no success. I finally concluded that it was a motherboard issue. I was right. But I've been given PC's with the same problem, after the fact and have fixed them in a number of ways. Here is a list of problems and solutions that could be the cause for the blank screen problem.

Problem One: The screen is going out.
Symptom: The screen is very dark when turned on, like the back light is barely on. You will know if this is the case if you try to look at the screen from very close up with your hands around a spot. and you see the screen on but very dim.
Solution: You will need to get the screen fixed. Probably cheaper to buy a new laptop or (for desktops) replace the monitor.

Problem Two: The motherboard is fried.
Symptom:  All of the hardware starts up, some hardware might not start up, and the screen is blank with nothing on it, the screen will not turn on at all.
Solution: Unless you really like the PC, buy a new one.

Problem Three: A BIOS update is needed.
Symptom: The computer fails to start properly. The screen is blank while all other hardware and devices turn on.
Solution: Hard reboot. Hold down the power key for 30 sec, the PC will turn off after a couple of seconds, keep holding. Then re-push and release the power key to turn on the PC, the screen should come on like normal and a BIOS update is needed (I will be posting BIOS updates soon) .
Solution2: If this does not get the screen to turn on, try to take away all power to the PC and hold down the power key for 10 seconds. Connect all power back to the PC and turn the device on. If this still does not work, take away power once again and this time take out the BIOS battery as well (This will reset the BIOS configurations on the PC), and then press the power key for 10 seconds. Reinstall BIOS battery, reconnect all power, and re-push the power key and release to turn on. If this still down not fix the problem, your motherboard is most likely fried.

In all of these fixes there was no mention of going into a tech store and having them look at your PC. If these solutions do not work, go into a tech store and have them look at it. They will be able to let you know a fix cost as well , where i can not.

Thanks, good luck.
